CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Connecticut - Hartford Hospital has an immediate opening for a CPE DIRECTOR OF TRAINING.  If you enjoy unique opportunities and working in a culturally diverse community with striking New England scenery, then Hartford Hospital is for you! This facility is easily accessible to the major highways, a welcome convenience if you want to visit New York City or Boston. Our Pastoral Care Department consists of six talented chaplains, a wonderful administrative assistant and six hard working full time residents, as well as summer and extended programs of Level I CPE and supervisory education.  Since 1957, Hartford Hospital has had the distinction of conducting an ACPE CPE program for all levels of training. Our premier 600 + bed health care facility celebrates being the Connecticut's first nationally accredited 24/7 stroke center and is the northeast's only national cancer institute (NCI) community cancer center program. Its Level One Trauma Center, which operates the only medical helicopter service in the State, represents our commitment to rapidly changing cutting edge technology as well as innovative and creative educational programs. An example of this is the hospital's Integrative Therapies program which offers Guided imagery throughout the hospital, the inclusion of Spirituality and Art as a curriculum component and a community program for bereavement support. The department is well integrated with treatment teams in the hospital and provides 24 hour coverage to all traumas, cardiac and respiratory calls.  The ideal candidate will need a Master of Divinity degree; ordination or commissioning; faith group endorsement; and certification as an ACPE Associate Supervisor (ACPE Certified Supervisor preferred). She/he will coordinate all levels of Clinical Pastoral Education training and programs offered at the hospital, including teaching, arranging for adjunct faculty, and providing individual and group supervision, as well as recruiting, coordinating and supervising volunteers for the department. In addition to serving on some hospital committees, this position is responsible for the CPE accreditation, with support of the Department Director. Interested applicants, please contact Rev. Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD -  The nation’s # 1 hospital (ranked as the # 1 hospital for 18 consecutive years by a survey of US News & World Report), is recruiting an additional ACPE (Associate) Supervisor for the position of Manager of CPE. This managerial position is on the same level as the already existing position of Manager of CPE (Rev. Dr. Paula Teague). Together with her and four clinical chaplains, the second CPE manager will be part of “Senior Staff” of the department of pastoral care. The two CPE managers and four staff chaplains report directly to the Director of the Pastoral Care Department, Rev. Dr. Uwe Scharf, who reports directly to the VP for Medical Affairs. We are seeking to fill this position between September 1, 2008 and January 1, 2009.  This position is a full time, exempt, 40-hour + managerial position that will involve regular week-long administrative backup call rotations (ca. once a month—call can be taken from home). The CPE manager will be experienced in crisis care, death and bereavement ministry, CPE supervision, interfaith and multicultural ministries. We are particularly looking for a candidate who will add to the growing diversity of the Johns Hopkins Pastoral Care department. A CPE Manager who is able to recruit within (and bring CPE to) the largely African-American population of Hopkins’ location of East Baltimore and who enjoys becoming an ambassador of pastoral education for the churches, synagogues, temples, and mosques of East Baltimore will be preferred. Knowledge of a foreign language (in addition to fluency in English) and familiarity with other cultures will be a plus in the diverse environment of Hopkins and the greater Baltimore/Washington, DC areas. We are one hour away from DC.  The CPE manager will join a dynamic and growing department of pastoral care of six senior staff members and two support staff members, including one Oncology chaplain, two Family Advocate/Surgical chaplains, one Catholic chaplain, one Episcopal chaplain (who is also a supervisory candidate of ACPE), one CPE Manager and the Departmental Director, who is also an ACPE supervisor. The department offers a year-long ACPE-accredited program for five or six residents and five or more interns at any given time as well as an SIT program. Recently we have brought our CPE internship and SIT program also to Hopkins Bayview, which has become accredited as a CPE satellite of Hopkins.  Minimum requirements include graduation from an accredited college with a B.A. or B.S.; a Master of Divinity degree (or equivalent) from an accredited seminary/Divinity School (or equivalent); ordination as a minister (or equivalent), endorsement as a CPE (Associate) supervisor by a recognized body of faith, and at least five years combined ministerial and CPE experience. We favor candidates who already bring managerial experiences as managers of CPE or pastoral care. The managerial responsibilities for our CPE programs and other hospital and departmental responsibilities are assigned by the departmental director on a rotating basis, usually for a three-year term. Attractive benefits and competitive salary:   $53,215 (Min); $73,170(Mid); $93,126 (Max).  Johns Hopkins is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Women and Minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Please send a cover letter and resume to Rev. Uwe C. Scharf, Ph.D., Director, Department of Pastoral Care, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Blalock 170, Baltimore, MD 21287, uscharf@jhmi.edu   (8198)
